Built for the Helsinki Olympics in 1952, the Sokos Vaakuna Hotel is housed in an imposing traditional building that also plays host to one of the biggest department stores in Finland. The large semi-circular reception area is decorated in an Art Deco style and features a generous seating area and a wooden reception desk. The 270 medium sized guestrooms are lent a warm atmosphere through use of pine fittings and light colour schemes. They are clean and well maintained, as are the en suite bathrooms. The hotel’s main restaurant - a combination of brasserie, dining room and nightclub - is situated on the 10th floor. Commanding beautiful views over Helsinki, it offers a Continental buffet for breakfast, as well as international cuisine for lunch and dinner. The other restaurant on the ground floor, is an American style diner.
